Save Your Small Business Money

If you are a small business owner, the rough economy is probably hitting you pretty hard. People have less money to spend on whatever you may be selling, business costs seem to only go up, and members of the government think that hiking your taxes even higher will somehow make everything better. It’s hard to run a small business today. Here are some things you can do to hopefully save your small business money.

  • Reduce your costs. There are a number of things you can do to reduce costs. Substitute video conferencing for airline travel whenever possible. Save printing paper by printing on both sides. Conserve ink by printing conservatively or in draft. Lower ink costs by not printing everything in color. Take advantage of Internet Faxing services to save both money and time.
  • Buy used instead of new. From used office furniture to refurbished computers to a pre-owned company car, buying used saves money. Check out trade shows, classifieds, liquidators, or websites like craigslist.org or capasset.com to get good deals on good pre-owned supplies.
  • When you need to travel, search for discounts or price reductions that may be available to businesses for plane tickets, hotels, and more.
  • Search for business-related tax deductions. The IRS website has a lot of information regarding eligible deductions that you can use. Office equipment can sometimes be deducted. As can legal fees, software, and certain business-related taxes.
  • Keep your utility bills down by watching energy usage.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t really look like the economy is going to be rebounding any time soon. Small businesses, to remain solvent, need to spend wisely and save money to survive until the economy improves.
